How We Built an AI-Powered Student Super App for Engineering Students Across Tamil Nadu

The best student products are built by people who have lived the student experience.


The Founder

When Tyaga B approached us with the idea behind Code Sapiens, the vision was larger than building another college utility app.

Tyaga, who serves as Vice President at CaratLane and is deeply involved in student communities, had spent years interacting with engineering students across Tamil Nadu. He understood a common problem that most students face.

Students spend four years in college. But very few have a structured system that helps them manage academics, build better habits, improve productivity, and create a profile that extends beyond classroom learning.

Code Sapiens was already helping students through its community initiatives. The next step was obvious: build a digital platform that students could use every day.



Beyond the Classroom

Engineering education teaches students many things. Managing attendance. Tracking academic performance. Organizing study materials. Building productive habits. Preparing for placements.

Most students still rely on scattered tools and manual processes to handle these tasks.

The vision behind the Code Sapiens App was simple: create a single student super app that engineering students could download during their first year and continue using until graduation. Not another productivity tool. Not another attendance calculator. A complete academic companion.



Building a Student Super App for Tamil Nadu

The platform was designed specifically for engineering students across Tamil Nadu, irrespective of their college, university, branch, or academic background.

The goal was to make student life easier through a combination of:

  • Academic management
  • Student engagement features

Most student apps feel like government portals. We wanted Code Sapiens to feel like a product built by students, for students.



Designing for Gen Z Students

A major focus of the project was creating an interface that students would actually enjoy using. We designed the entire experience around a neo-brutalism design system.

The product features:

  • Bold visual hierarchy
  • High-contrast elements
  • Playful layouts
  • Fun interactions
  • Micro animations
  • Tanglish-first communication

The objective was simple: make productivity feel less like work.



Building the Product in Just Four Weeks

One of the most exciting parts of this project was the timeline. The complete MVP was designed, developed, tested, and deployed within four weeks.

The application was built using Flutter, allowing us to ship a high-performance mobile experience while maintaining a single codebase. The app was successfully deployed to the Google Play Store and received strong adoption and positive feedback from the student community.

To achieve rapid development and scalability, we selected Flutter as the primary framework. The technology stack included:

What We Built

AI Timetable Tracker

Students simply upload their timetable. The AI system automatically extracts timetable information, identifies subjects, understands timings, creates a structured schedule, and syncs with Google Calendar. Reminders are delivered through fun Tanglish notifications that feel more like messages from a friend than system alerts.

Attendance Tracker

Students can mark classes as present or absent, track attendance subject-wise, monitor attendance percentages, and receive alerts when attendance drops below thresholds, all through humorous Tanglish notifications instead of boring warnings.

AI-Powered GPA and CGPA Calculator

Users upload their grade sheets. The AI system automatically extracts grades, identifies subjects, calculates GPA and CGPA, and displays academic performance insights, complete with fun animations and motivational interactions after successful calculations.

Smart Syllabus Browser

A centralized repository where Campus Ambassadors upload syllabi from their respective colleges, letting students browse department-wise content, search across syllabus documents, and quickly locate topics.

Notes and Question Paper Hub

Students contribute notes and question papers and receive access to community resources in return, using an upload-to-unlock model with AI-powered document moderation to keep content relevant.

Built-In Pomodoro Timer

Available directly from the home screen, the timer helps students stay focused, improve concentration, manage study sessions, and build productive habits.

Seasonal AI Experiences

To increase engagement, we designed AI-powered seasonal experiences including Roast My Resume, Resume to Tamil Meme, Placement Readiness Checks, Personality-Based Insights, and Career-Themed Fun Generators.

Final Thoughts

Code Sapiens represents a new generation of student-focused platforms that combine artificial intelligence with practical academic tools.

For us, this project was proof that meaningful products can be built quickly when there is a clear vision, strong execution, and a community that genuinely needs the solution.

And for thousands of engineering students, this is only the beginning.
